Early Morning Door Pop for Rescue 1

Sunday, October 20, 2013  Around 0430 hours Rescue 1 responded for the report of a motor vehicle collision in the area of Florida Ave and South Dakota Ave NE with reports of people trapped. Initial units arrived on scene and confirmed there was a motor vehicle collision with people trapped. Rescue 1 arrived on scene and quickly extricated the pts from the vehicle. The occupants were handed over to awaiting EMS. Rescue 1 returned to service.

     



 

Thoughts and Prayers

 The members of Engine 2, Rescue 1 and the Office of the Deputy Fire Chief would like send our thoughts and prayers to the members of Engine Co. 23 for the untimely death of FF T. Boston of Platoon #1. FF Boston died after sustaining injuries from a motorcycle accident. We send our deepest thoughts and prayers to the family and friends left behind. We offer any assistance needed to Engine Co. 23. 

We would also like to send our thoughts and prayers to the members of Engine Co.10/Truck 13 for loss of Retired Lt. L Handley who for many years was the heart and soul of the "House of Pain". We also send our prayers to the family and friends. Also extending any assistance needed.

Arrangements for FF T. Boston of Engine Co. 23: September 4th, 2013 Viewing from 10-11, Service will be at 11am. At From the Heart Ministries at 4949 Allentown, Rd Suitland, MD. Interment to follow at National Harmony Memorial Park at 7101 Sheriff Rd, Landover, MD.  (Hodges -Edwards Funeral Home)

Arrangements for Ret. Lt L. Handley:Viewing August 30th 2-4/ 6-8. Brinfield-EcholsFuneral Home inCharlotte Hall, MD. Mass atImmaculate Conception Church on August 31st at 10am. Burial at ReaurrectionCemetery in Clinton MR. Repast at American Letion in Hughesville, MD.

Squad runs fire in SE

Thursday, August 8, 2013   Just after being placed in service from another box Rescue 1 was dispatched for a house on fire with reports of people trapped in the 2800 Block of Denver St SE. Units arrived on scene with fire showing. Rescue 1 arriving shortly after, began a search, once in the back of the house Rescue 1 found a family trapped. While ladders were being putting in place members from Rescue 1 placed there face pieces on the mother and children. Once the ladders were in place Rescue 1 handed the family to the awaiting truck company and continued the search. No other occupants were found. Once the fire was extinguished Rescue 1 returned to service. The Firefighting Deputy had command of the incident. A good job goes to all who operated on Denver st especially the crew from Rescue 1.

     



 

Engine and Squad run warehouse fire in NE

Friday, August 2, 2013   Today around 1930 hours Engine 12 was dispatched for an outside fire, upon arrival Engine 12 requested the box alarm for a warehouse on fire. Engine 2 and Rescue 1 responded to the 1900 Block of 5th St NE for the warehouse fire. Engine 2 responded as 2nd Due Engine Company. Upon arrival Engine 2 and Rescue 1 found fire through the roof. Engine 2 placed a line in service and assisted Engine 12 in extinquishing the fire. Rescue 1 completed a search and assisted in other fireground operations. The Firefighting Deputy had command of the incident.

Friday, August 2, 2013   The latest list is out. The members of Engine 2 and Rescue 1 wish the best of Lieutenant M. Walko on his promotion to Captain, he is going to Engine 23 #1, we also wish the best to new Sergeant P. Gervais as aide for the 3rd Battalion Chief on #3. Also we would like to welcome Lieutenant S. Kuhn to Rescue 1 #2.

Water Rescue

Monday, July 15, 2013  Rescue 1 responded for the report of a dog in the water near Capital Crescent Trail. Upon arrival units found a dog in the water, once on scene Rescue 1 and Truck 12 rescued the dog and returned the dog to the awaiting owner.

   


 

Busy day for Platoon #3

Sunday, July 14, 2013  This past tour proved to be a busy one for Platoon #3. Beginning with a few normal medical locals and local alarms. At 1451 hours Rescue 1 was alerted for the house fire in the 3100 Block of N St NW, units found a small fire in the closet, Rescue 1 arrived and assisted in some slight overhaul and lighting.

After clearing the run, Rescue 1 responded for the report of smoke in the 2300 Block of Good Hope Rd SE but was placed in service. At 1539 Rescue 1 was alerted for the house fire in the 200 Block of Cromwell Terrace NE. Upon arrival units found a bed on fire on the 2nd floor. Rescue 1 arrived on the scene performed a search and assisted in other fireground operations.

A minute after the assignment was dispatched for Cromwell Terrace, at 1540 Engine 2 responded to the report of a house fire in the 900 Block of 5th St NE. Engine 3 arrived on scene with heavy fire showing, Engine 2 arrived on scene was assigned to division 1 and was tasked with placing a line service at the basement. Once the fire was extinquished, Engine 2 assisted in overhaul. Engine 2 returned to service shortly after.

After all was said and done members of Engine 2 and Rescue 1 had a less eventful evening. Good job to Platoon #3.

Newest addition to the family

Friday, June 28, 2013   The members of Engine 2, Rescue 1 and the Office of the Deputy Fire Chief congratulate FF Shane Ridgeway on the birth of his son Hudson Phillips Ridgeway 8.37 pounds. 20.5 inches. We can't wait to meet the newest addition. 

   


 

New Addition

Sunday, April 28, 2013   The members of Engine 2, Rescue 1 and the Office of the Firefighting Deputy would like to welcome the newest member to the family Brady Gervais, father Phil Gervais of Rescue 1 #2. Brady was born at 7:48pm weighs 6lbs 14oz. Both Brady and mom are doing fine. We again welcome the newest addition and can't wait to meet Brady and see the rest of the Gervais Family.
