      performance

Saturday, December 31, 2011  Rescue 1 responded for the report of a building fire in the 2000 Block of West Virginia Ave NE. Units arrived on scene and found a fire in the building, and had problems gaining access. At that time a working fire dispatch was sounded bringing the Firefighting Deputy. Rescue 1 arrived on scene and assisted in gaining entry into the warehouse. Units found multiple fires on the first and second floors. Rescue 1 then completed a search and assisted in fireground operations. Two firefighters were transported to local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The Firefighting Deputy had command of the incident.

After clearing the fire on West Virginia Ave NE, Rescue 1 along with Engine 2, responded to Ford's Theater for the report of smoke on the third floor. Engine 2 arrived on scene and found nothing evident. Rescue 1 arrived on scene and helped investigate. Units found steam on the third floor. Engine 2 and Rescue 1 returned to service.

Thursday, December 29, 2011  The members of Engine 2, Rescue 1, and the DFC's Office, wish the best of luck to Captain K. Gans on his new assignment to T-17-4, as well as Sgt. D. Creelman on his new assignment to BFC-SO-4 Aide. The members welcome A/Sgt F. Phipps Jr to RS-1-3, and Captain S. Smith to E-2-3.

A Christmas Get Together

Saturday, December 17, 2011  Members of Engine 2, Rescue 1 and the DFC's office, gathered for a Christmas get together at Fado's Irish Pub, with friends and family. They enjoyed good food, drinks and lots of laughs. Fun was had by all. 

   


 

DFC's Aide Sgt Eubanks retires after 29 Years

Wednesday, December 14, 2011  DFC's Aide Sgt Eubanks retires after 29 years of dedicated service to the citizens and visitors of the District of Columbia. Sgt Eubanks was appointed to Truck 9 in August of 1982. After 5 years he went to Engine 9, where he eventually became a wagon driver, which he held for 10 years. After which he was promoted to Sgt at the DFC's office. 

A dinner was held in his honor, members from Engine 2, Rescue 1,DFC-FFD attended as well as family, friends and co-workers all to congratulate Sgt Eubanks on his service and to wish him well on his future endeavors.


The members of Engine 2, Rescue 1, and the DFC-FFD would like to thank all who attended the dinner, and wish Sgt Eubanks a happy and healthy retirement.

Rescue runs fire in NE

Wednesday, December 14, 2011  Rescue 1 responded for the report of a building fire in the 1900 Block of New York Ave NE. Units arrived on the scene with smoke showing. Upon further investigation units found a fire in the rear and began extinqusihing the fire. Rescue 1 arrived on scene performed a search, and assisted in fireground operations. The Firefighting Deputy had command of the incident.

     



 

Rescue runs entrapment

Sunday, December 11, 2011  Units were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident at 12th St and Independence Ave SW. Once units arrived on scene and found a two vehicle accident with one subject trapped. At that time Rescue 1 was dispatched. Once on scene Rescue 1 quickly went to work extricating the trapped patient. Once the patient was extricated the patient was handed over to awaiting EMS and transported to a local hospital.

S-823 is placed in service as Rescue 1

Monday, November 28, 2011 2000  The members of Engine 2 and Rescue 1 are proud to announce that S-823 has been placed in service. The new Rescue 1 is a 2011 Pierce Heavy Rescue Squad. The members of Rescue 1 went down to the Training Academy and switched over all the equipment into the new Rescue. After being placed in service, Rescue 1 took its first official run at 2105 hours at 4400 Massachusetts Ave NW for the stalled elevator. The members of Rescue 1 are ready and waiting for the first fire for the new Rescue.

Monday, November 28, 2011 1900  The members of Engine 2, Rescue 1 and the Firefighting Deputy wish to congratulate Rescue 1 member Michael Puglisi on being promoted to Acting Sergeant at T-7-1. We also wish the best of luck to DFC Aide Sergeant Edwin Lehan on his detail to T-13-4.

Eventful Thanksgiving Day for Rescue 1

Thursday, November 24, 2011   The Thanksgiving tour was an eventful one for the members of Rescue 1. The first run at 0500 hours was for an accident with one person trapped in the 3600 Block of M St NW. Rescue 1 arrived on scene quickly extricated the patient, and then turned the patient to awaiting EMS where they transported to a local hospital.

Then around 1600 hours a box alarm was sounded for the report of an apartment on fire in the 900 Block of 25th St NW. Units arrived on scene and found a fire in the apartment on the third floor with smoke conditions. Rescue 1 arrived on scene completed a search and assisted in fireground operations. The fire was extinquished and was found to be a stove on fire in the apartment. The Firefighting Deputy had command of the incident. 

As Rescue 1 was clearing the box, an alarm was sounded for smoke coming from the building in the area of Wisconsin Ave and O St NW. Units arrived on scene with smoke showing and the front windows blown out. Upon further investigation, units in the rear of the building found a partial collapse of the building with a strong odor of gas. At that time the Cave-in Task Force was sounded and the Hazmat unit responded as well. The K-9 unit from Montgomery was called for to search the structure. After a search no occupants were found, and the gas company secured the structure. Units returned to service approximately two hours later.

Once Rescue 1 and the Firefighting Deputy returned home, members of Engine 2, Rescue 1 and the Firefighting Deputy enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving Dinner. 

The tour did not end at the Thanksgiving Dinner, around 0200 hours Rescue 1 and Engine 2 responded for the report of an apartment fire in the 900 Block of Rhode Island Ave NW. Units arrived on scene with nothing evident, upon further investigation found a fire in the closet. Command held it with one engine and one truck, Engine 2 and Rescue 1 returned to service. 

As Rescue 1 was clearing Rhode Island Ave, an alarm was sounded for a vehicle into the quarters of 9 Engine. Units on scene advised there was a car into the watchroom of 9 Engine. No members of 9 Engine were injuried, the driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital.
